Future Generations Report 2025

30 April 2025

On 29th April, the Future Generations Commissioner published the Future Generations Report 2025, which challenges the decision-makers to consider alternative ways to verify the Well-being Future Generations Act to ensure a better future for the next generation.

The Future Generations Commissioner has asked politicians and public bodies in Wales to:

·       No more short-term fixes

·       Supercharge actions with multiple benefits

·       Unlock private sector finance

·       A Real Living Wage commitment

·       Ringfence prevention funding

·       A national food resilience plan

·       Culture must be protected

·       Rebuild trust in decision-making

·       Invest in public services

·       Simplify partnerships and funding

·       Review and strengthen the WFG Act

The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act sets out Cymru’s vision for a sustainable future. It requires public bodies in Wales to consider the long-term impact of their decisions, work collaboratively with people, communities and each other, and take action to prevent persistent challenges such as poverty, health inequalities and climate change.

Professor Andrew Edwards, Deputy to the Vice-Chancellor at Bangor University and Chair of the Gwynedd & Anglesey Public Services Board said:

“During the last 10 years, the Gwynedd & Anglesey Public Services Board has worked collaboratively to begin mitigating the effects and to prepare a better future for the next generation, with an increase towards the national well-being aims and make new decisions which support the 5 ways of working and the well-being aims.

As a Board, we’re looking forward to continuing with the strong partnerships that have been developed, continue to lead the way through our sub-groups and to work collaboratively in our responses and accomplishing the recommendations that are in the Report.”
